Protest staged over principal appointment at Nayakakanda Good Shepherd Balika M.V.

Today (07), a protest took place in Wattala regarding the selection of a new principal at the Good Shepherd Convent Balika M.V. in Nayakakanda, Wattala. Former students and parents gathered outside the school, urging officials to dismiss the newly appointed principal and replace her with a Catholic nun, as has been customary for many years. The protesters highlighted that the Nayakakanda Good Shepherd Convent has a nearly century-long history, where the role of principal has traditionally been filled by Catholic nuns. Recently, a lay principal was appointed due to a transfer, which has upset many old girls and parents. This morning, they came together in front of the school to express their discontent and insist that the tradition be maintained.
