Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody explained that the government has not introduced any power cuts amid the current energy crisis. He stated that the temporary outages are only due to electricity breakdowns. During a parliamentary meeting on April 7, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman raised concerns about the lack of proper communication to the public regarding potential power cuts. He pointed out that reports from various areas in Sri Lanka mention power outages lasting one hour or more each day. In reply, the Minister asked people to avoid spreading false information and highlighted that such breakdowns are common and not a new issue for citizens. He insisted that these brief interruptions should be called “breakdowns” instead of “power cuts.”
