Sri Lanka extend condolences over mass shooting in Canada
Vijitha Herath, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, has expressed his condolences to the people and government of Canada following a tragic mass shooting that took place yesterday in British Columbia. The incident resulted in nine fatalities and left at least 25 individuals injured. Minister Herath shared his sorrow over the tragic event at a school in British Columbia, Canada. In a message on X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “On behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families mourning their loved ones and wish a quick recovery for those hurt. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. May they find strength, comfort, and peace during this extremely challenging time.” In related news, an 18-year-old named Jesse Van Rootselaar has been identified as the suspect in the shooting that claimed eight lives and injured many more in British Columbia. Authorities reported that he was found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The reason behind the attack is still unclear. Among the deceased were six individuals at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, along with two others – the suspect’s mother, aged 39, and his 11-year-old step-brother – who were discovered dead at a nearby residence.
