The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has announced that it received over 10,000 complaints in 2025. Shanika Malalgoda, the Director of Planning and Information at the NCPA, shared that the total number of complaints was 10,455 during the year. She spoke at a media briefing today (06) at the Government Information Department to promote awareness about child protection in Sri Lanka. Malalgoda mentioned that 2,099 of these complaints were about cruelty against children. Additionally, she reported that by February 28 of this year, the Authority had already logged 11,409 complaints concerning corporal punishment. The Director encouraged anyone who sees or learns about child abuse or corporal punishment to report it right away to the NCPA. She emphasized that people can call the free child helpline at 1929 to make complaints and urged the public to use this number at any time.
