A meeting took place today (30) at the Presidential Secretariat to assess the progress of the “Prajashakthi” national programme. This initiative, led by the government, aims to empower communities and ensure fair economic benefits for all in Sri Lanka. The discussion was chaired by Upali Pannilage, the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment. During the meeting, participants focused on the current status of the Prajashakthi Programme for 2026, as well as capacity-building efforts and plans for 2027. There was also an emphasis on preparing budget proposals for the upcoming year. It was decided to hold a meeting of the Prajashakthi Steering Committee on April 6 to discuss these matters, according to the President’s Media Division. The Prajashakthi Programme is part of the government’s policy statement and serves as a multi-faceted effort to empower communities. It is one of three major national programmes aimed at ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly among all societal groups. Additionally, it focuses on promoting development in rural areas through specific initiatives, as noted by the PMD. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Sampath Manthrinayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment; Kapila Janaka Bandara, Senior Additional Secretary to the President; and H.M.M.U.B.
