54 suspects identified in Mirihana violence near Gotabaya Rajapaksa s residence, court informed
The Supreme Court was informed today (30) by the Attorney General that the investigation into the violent event near former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's Mirihana residence is still in progress. This update came during a hearing on a fundamental rights petition filed by Thanabalasingam Subakaran, who said he was injured in the violence. The case was presented before a three-judge panel consisting of Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justices Achala Wengappuli, and Arjuna Obeyesekere. During the hearing, the State Counsel revealed that 54 suspects have been identified related to the incident, with the petitioner being one of them. Police have already sent some investigation documents to the Attorney General’s Department. The State Counsel asked the court to set a date for an update on the investigation's progress. Attorney Ermiza Tegal, representing the petitioner, noted that the Supreme Court has given permission to examine the case. The three-judge panel has scheduled the next hearing for September 25 and instructed the State Counsel to provide a report on the investigation's progress at that time.
