In the last three years, Sri Lanka has successfully brought back 30 high-profile criminals as part of an ongoing effort to extradite suspects involved in major crimes while avoiding capture abroad. This information was shared by Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler. Among those repatriated is Prabhath Madusanka, known as “Midigama Chuti,” who was returned to Sri Lanka today (30). He is wanted for a range of serious charges, such as murder, aggravated robbery, illegal firearm possession, weapons trafficking, counterfeiting currency, drug trafficking, and other major offenses. During a press conference in Colombo today (30), ASP Wootler mentioned that the suspect will face court proceedings, after which a detention order will be requested to allow for more questioning by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He highlighted that strong international cooperation has helped in bringing back these suspects, even without Interpol Red Notices. So far, 13 suspects have been returned to Sri Lanka under this program, including two from India on March 28. Currently, there are 88 organized criminals with Red Notices issued against them. Additionally, the Police Media Spokesperson revealed that a special security plan is in place for Easter Sunday services. He stated that members from the Tri-Forces, Police, Civil Security Department, and both intelligence and undercover units will be deployed to ensure the safety of the public during religious activities. In related news, police carried out island-wide operations targeting those hoarding fuel illegally, resulting in the seizure of 44,811 liters of diesel, 2,668 liters of petrol, and 2,062 liters of kerosene. These operations led to the arrest of 27 suspects.
