Hormuz route opened for India- Iran FM Araghchi
Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced on Thursday that vessels from friendly countries, including India, are now allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Consulate General in Mumbai shared this information, stating, “Iran FM Abbas Araghchi: We permitted passage through the Strait of Hormuz for friendly nations including China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan.” This decision follows remarks made by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who urged for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. In a message on X, he expressed concern that the ongoing closure of the strait is severely affecting the movement of oil, gas, and fertilizers during a crucial time for global agriculture. He noted, “Civilians in the region and beyond are suffering greatly and facing serious insecurity. The UN is working to lessen the impact of the war, and the best way to do this is clear: end the war immediately.” Guterres also called on the US and Israel to stop their military actions in West Asia. He stated, “My message to the US and Israel is that it’s time to end the war, as human suffering increases, civilian casualties rise, and the global economy feels the strain. To Iran, I say: stop attacking neighboring countries that are not part of the conflict.” Earlier, on March 25, the Iranian mission in New York indicated that they would allow what they referred to as “non-hostile vessels” to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. They posted on X, “Non-hostile vessels, including those from other states, may benefit from safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz if they do not engage in or support actions against Iran and adhere to safety regulations." The Iranian Defence Council has made it clear that the movement of these “non-hostile vessels” through the Strait of Hormuz will require prior coordination with Iranian authorities.
