Iran threatens to destroy energy sites across Middle East if Trump sticks to 48-hour Hormuz ultimatum
Iran has issued a warning that global oil prices will remain high for a long time if its vital energy facilities are attacked. The country has threatened to "destroy" oil and energy sites across the Middle East "immediately" if its power plants are targeted. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the parliamentary speaker, shared on social media that once Iran's power plants and infrastructure are attacked, all critical energy infrastructure and oil facilities in the region will be seen as valid targets and will face irreversible destruction, leading to sustained high oil prices. This statement comes after Donald Trump’s warning last night that if Iran does not “fully open” the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the US will “hit and obliterate their power plants.” Following Iran's actions to halt maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, global oil prices have surged significantly.
