Iran has broadened its military actions by targeting the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, coinciding with the U.S. beginning to withdraw many of its staff from the region. Airstrikes from the U.S. and Israel have heavily targeted Iran, with President Donald Trump indicating that this might be just the beginning of a conflict that has greatly affected global oil and gas supplies, international shipping, and air travel. As the war escalated on its fourth day, Israel deployed more ground troops into Lebanon, and there were explosions reported in Tehran. The death toll has reached hundreds, mainly in Iran. The ongoing nature of the conflict has led to uncertainties about its duration and resolution. Trump estimated it could last four to five weeks but mentioned that the U.S. is ready for an extended engagement. He did not rule out the possibility of sending ground troops, as he told the New York Post on Monday. However, the administration's goals remain vague. The initial strikes by the U.S. and Israel resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting Trump to encourage Iranians to rise against their government. Yet, senior officials later clarified that regime change was not the aim. Trump's initial strike announcement highlighted several issues, including concerns over Iran's nuclear and missile programs and its leadership. A drone attack on the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh led to a "limited fire," according to the Saudi Defense Ministry. The embassy has advised Americans to stay away from the area. This attack came after the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait announced it would be closed until further notice, leading the U.S. State Department to evacuate non-emergency staff and families from Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Qatar, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, the U.S. has recommended that its citizens leave over a dozen countries in the Middle East, a sentiment echoed by many other nations. However, many individuals remain stranded due to closed airspace. According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, the U.S.-Israeli strikes have resulted in at least 787 fatalities. In Israel, where Iranian missiles hit multiple sites, 11 people lost their lives. The Iranian-backed group Hezbollah has also attacked Israel, leading to retaliatory strikes that killed 52 people in Lebanon. The U.S. military confirmed that six American service members have died, along with three individuals in the United Arab Emirates, and one each in Kuwait and Bahrain.
