State of Public Emergency in Sri Lanka extended
The Public Emergency in Sri Lanka has been prolonged. An extraordinary gazette notice has been released, extending the emergency status until February 28, 2026. This notice is signed by Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, the Secretary to the President. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issued the proclamation using his authority from Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40). This section has been modified by Act No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act No. 28 of 1988, allowing the rules in Part II of the Ordinance to take effect across Sri Lanka.
