Australian PM evacuated from his house due to safety threat
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been evacuated from his official home due to a safety concern. Local police have arrived at Mr. Albanese’s residence in Canberra. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) released a statement saying, “A thorough search of a protection establishment has commenced and is still ongoing. There is no current threat to the community or public safety.” A former bodyguard for prime ministers told Sky News Australia that the decision to evacuate the Prime Minister was a “significant move” by authorities. He mentioned, “This isn’t just an online threat...there must be some evidence for [police] to respond this way. They will have several plans in place, and depending on the nature of the threat, those plans will be implemented and the response will be suitable.” This action follows a warning from AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett, who noted that violent offenders have been increasingly targeting politicians. Ms. Barrett recently stated during Senate Estimates that such offenders are more often focusing on politicians and high-ranking officials.
