Four people, including a woman, have been arrested for trying to kill Bandula Prasanna, a member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) who ran for the Kalutara Municipal Council in the last local election. The arrests happened during a joint operation involving the Police Special Task Force (STF) Organized Crime Prevention Unit and the Kalutara District Crime Division. The main suspect, a 24-year-old man from Nagoda, was detained yesterday (10) in Balangoda. Investigations showed he is linked to other serious crimes, such as trying to shoot a prison inmate at Nagoda Hospital in December 2025 and the murder of a hotel owner in Dehiwala. Three other suspects, two men aged 23 and 24 from Kalutara and a 23-year-old woman from Bolossagama, were also arrested for helping with the crime. The Kalutara District Crime Division is continuing its investigation.
