Over 2.7 million new QR codes issued since March 15 - Ministry
Since March 15, more than 6.2 million individuals in Sri Lanka have signed up for the National Fuel Pass system and received new QR codes. This system was reintroduced by the government to help manage fuel distribution. Sumudu Rathnayake, an advisor to the Ministry of Digital Economy, shared this information during a press conference on October 26, where he discussed how the ongoing conflict in the Middle East affects Sri Lanka. He explained that the QR code fuel distribution started on March 14, but some people had trouble getting their codes at first. After these issues were fixed, over 6.2 million people—including those who had registered before—received QR codes by that afternoon. Out of this number, more than 2.7 million registered for QR codes from March 15 onward. Rathnayake also mentioned that more than 600,000 people obtained QR codes after the ‘override’ feature was introduced on March 19 to help those facing problems. However, he pointed out that around 200,000 individuals are still having trouble getting their QR codes.
