Rainfall has also been significant in the Aththanagalu Oya Basin, with a measurement of nearly 300 mm recorded as of 5:00 AM today (22). The current rain and river levels indicate potential flooding in low-lying areas of the Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys over the next 48 hours. This situation may affect areas like Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana, and Wattala. Residents and motorists are asked to exercise caution as some roads in these regions may become flooded. In the Kelani River Basin, significant rainfall of almost 300 mm has also been reported. Based on this and data from gauging stations, a minor flood warning is issued for low-lying areas of the Kelani River valley within the next 24 hours. This warning affects the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Dehiovita, Eheliyagoda, Yatiyantota, and Bulathkohupitiya. Residents and travelers in these areas should remain vigilant. If heavy rains continue, flooding might also extend to lower areas of the Kelani River valley downstream of Hanwella. Disaster Management Authorities are requested to respond accordingly.
