Landslide early warnings issued to the Districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura
LEVEL I (YELLOW) warnings have been issued for Mirigama and Divulapitiya in Gampaha, Agalawatta and Mathugama in Kalutara, Bulathkohupitiya in Kegalle, and Ambagamuwa in Nuwara Eliya. In the next few hours, there is a chance of minor flooding in the low-lying areas along the Kalu River due to the heavy rain currently affecting the Kalu River Basin. This warning pertains to the Divisional Secretary Divisions of Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Ayagama, Elapatha, and Kiriella in Ratnapura District. Residents in these areas, along with drivers and passengers traveling through, are advised to stay alert and take all necessary precautions. Disaster Management Authorities are urged to respond appropriately to this situation. Significant rainfall has been recorded in the Aththanagalu Oya Basin as of 5:00 AM today (22). Based on the current rain levels and river data from Hydrological Stations in the Aththanagalu Oya, there is a risk of flooding in some low-lying areas of the Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys, affecting Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana, and Wattala Divisional Secretaries Divisions within the next 48 hours. Consequently, some roads in these areas may become submerged. The public living nearby, as well as motorists, are advised to exercise great caution due to this potential flooding. Additionally, nearly 300 mm of rain has been recorded in the upper catchment areas of the Kelani River Basin.
