Showers expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts
The Department of Meteorology issued this weather forecast on 17 May 2026 at 5:30 a.m. A low-pressure area located north of Sri Lanka is slowly weakening. As a result, there will be showers or thundershowers at times, with cloudy skies expected in the affected regions. Anuradhapura district may experience several spells of rain. After 1:00 p.m., some areas in the Uva and Eastern provinces and Polonnaruwa district might also see showers or thundershowers. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce risks from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. The forecast indicates that the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Northern provinces, along with Anuradhapura, Galle, and Matara, will experience rain at times.
