Heavy rainfall above 100 mm expected in several parts of the island
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is forecasted for various regions of Sri Lanka. The Department of Meteorology reports that a low-level atmospheric disturbance near the island may turn into a low-pressure area within the next 36 hours. As a result, the current rainy weather is expected to persist for several days. The department noted that many areas will experience rain or thundershowers at times, with cloudy skies due to the developing weather system. Significant rainfall, around 100 mm, is expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern, North Western, Northern, and North Central provinces, as well as the Trincomalee District. The public is urged to take necessary precautions against potential strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
