Vietnam's President To Lam, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee, will arrive in Sri Lanka tonight (July 7) for an official visit, along with a large delegation. This visit follows an invitation from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as announced by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation is expected to include nearly 200 members. President To Lam will also speak at the Sri Lankan Parliament tomorrow (July 8). The Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Trinh Thi Tam, mentioned that this visit aims to create new opportunities for cooperation and lead to significant agreements in important areas like trade, investment, agriculture, aviation, and logistics. It is also expected to open new pathways in fields such as the digital economy, innovation, and energy transition, aligning with the development needs of both nations in the years ahead. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Police have announced a special traffic plan for Colombo today and tomorrow due to the Vietnamese President's visit. There will be traffic restrictions tonight during the arrival motorcade from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to central Colombo, and again tomorrow morning and evening during official movements to the Presidential Secretariat, the Colombo Public Library, Parliament of Sri Lanka, and the President’s House. The Police Media Division stated that traffic limits may be enforced on certain roads during these times on July 7 and 8 for VIP security reasons.
