He stated that the government is reinforcing important investigative and legal bodies, such as the Criminal Investigation Department and the Bribery Commission, to tackle corruption cases. President Dissanayake claimed that the NPP government is the "most trusted" in the nation, having gained the confidence of people from all regions, including the Hill Country, North, East, and South. He emphasized that the government is making decisions that benefit the public while cutting back on the excessive privileges previously enjoyed by those in power. “We are making choices for the people and taking away the unfair advantages of the ruling class,” he said, criticizing former governments for focusing on their own gains while placing burdens on citizens. The President mentioned that the broader goal of the current administration is to create a nation with stable incomes, quality education, decent housing, the rule of law, and national unity for the working class. He also warned that many individuals charged with fraud and corruption could face prison sentences by 2026, emphasizing that the law will be enforced equally, regardless of political position or family ties. “We do not make exceptions for former Presidents, Prime Ministers, or their families. The law applies to everyone,” he stated.
