Indonesia and Sri Lanka are close to finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding for Bilateral Political Consultations along with an Agreement to exempt Diplomatic and Official passports from visa requirements. The Foreign Ministry shared this news after discussions between Indonesia's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Anis Matta, and Sri Lanka's Foreign Affairs counterpart, Vijitha Herath, in Colombo recently. They expressed optimism that both agreements would be completed soon and that they would hold the Bilateral Political Consultations and Joint Commission meeting shortly. The two officials discussed regional and global issues of common interest and reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region. With the 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia approaching in 2027, both parties acknowledged the need for high-level visits. Matta's official trip to Sri Lanka took place from April 23 to 25, following an invitation from Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra.
