The Department for Registration of Persons in Sri Lanka has announced that it is working to fix its computer system to return to regular operations. M.S.P. Suriyapperuma, the Commissioner General, stated that starting today, April 8, they will offer a one-day service to issue National Identity Cards (NICs) for applicants who have urgent needs at both the head office and regional offices. However, the department noted that all other services, including NIC verification and English translation for government and private institutions, will be temporarily unavailable. They have asked relevant organizations to find alternative solutions during this time. As a result, regular public services and operations at the head office and regional offices will be halted until further notice. The Department emphasized that all services will resume smoothly once the computer system is fully restored.
