Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has ordered all military units to halt fire after reaching a two-week ceasefire agreement with the United States. However, he emphasized that this does not mark the end of the conflict. In a statement broadcasted on state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Khamenei stated, “This is not the end of the war, but all military branches must obey the Supreme Leader’s command and stop firing.” Iran clarified that the ceasefire does not mean the war is over, and it remains ready to respond if the US or Israel take any action against them. Following the ceasefire announcement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council released a statement saying, “It is important to note that this does not mean the war has ended... Our hands are still on the trigger, and any mistake by the enemy will be met with a strong response.” The US and Israel began a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of the conflict. Over the past 39 days, many people across various nations have lost their lives due to the fighting. Expressing gratitude towards the Iranian people for their sacrifices, the Supreme National Security Council stated, “Now we bring good news to the great nation of Iran that nearly all war objectives have been accomplished, and your brave children have brought the enemy to a state of historic weakness and enduring defeat.” Tehran also confirmed that talks for negotiations will take place in Islamabad on Friday, April 10. The US had proposed a 15-point plan for a ceasefire and received a revised 10-point proposal in return as a foundation for discussions. Iran shared the details of its proposal, which highlighted key points such as “coordinated controlled passage through the Strait of Hormuz with Iran’s armed forces; a call to end the war against all parts of the Axis of Resistance; the withdrawal of US troops from all regional bases; establishing a safe transit protocol in the Strait of Hormuz that ensures Iran’s control as agreed; full compensation for damages to Iran; lifting all primary and secondary sanctions and resolutions from the Board of Governors and the Security Council; releasing all of Iran’s blocked assets abroad; and finally, the endorsement of all these terms in a binding UN Security Council resolution.”
