A drone strike by Russia on a market in southern Ukraine has resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left 21 others wounded, including a 14-year-old girl, according to the prosecutor general’s office. This incident occurred at 09:50 local time (06:50 GMT) in the town of Nikopol, which is situated across the Dnipro River from territory occupied by Russia since their full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Images released by the regional prosecutor show destroyed market stalls littered with metal debris and glass. This attack follows a tragic day on Friday, when at least 15 civilians lost their lives due to drone and missile strikes throughout Ukraine. In a separate incident, Ukraine conducted a drone and missile attack on the southern Russian city of Taganrog overnight, resulting in one death and four serious injuries, as reported by Russia. Nikopol often faces attacks, and nearly half of its 100,000 residents have evacuated for safety. However, this strike occurred on a busy Saturday morning, leading to a significant number of casualties. Two men were also hurt in a subsequent strike at the same site, with the prosecutor noting that these attacks are being treated as potential war crimes. The Ukrainian air force reported that nearly 300 drones were launched against Ukraine overnight, with additional casualties occurring in the northeastern city of Kharkiv and the northern Sumy region.
