The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) is working to shorten the planned water cuts in several parts of Colombo. Engineer Chandana Bandara, the Chairman of the Water Board, mentioned that they are aiming to limit the water cuts to 12 or eight hours due to the current situation. Because of water supply issues caused by the ongoing dry weather, the NWSDB had previously announced water cuts every three days in areas like Padukka, Homagama, Palanwatta, and Pannipitiya. However, on the 3rd of this month, the NWSDB updated that the duration of these water interruptions would be cut down from 24 hours to 18 hours, taking into account the problems faced by residents. They are now trying to reduce the interruptions even further to 12 or eight hours, according to Bandara. Additionally, the NWSDB is putting special plans in place to provide water through bowsers if more disruptions occur in the Colombo District. They have already started moving water bowsers from other districts managed by the Water Board to Colombo. Bandara also pointed out that around 20,000 water connections have been affected by the current supply issues.
