The Sri Lanka Navy has discovered over 300 kilograms of heroin on a fishing trawler they seized off Beruwala. This operation was based on foreign intelligence. According to Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, the Navy captured the local multi-day fishing vessel during a deep-sea surveillance mission. Early this morning (January 1), the trawler was brought to the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour, where officials found 298 packages of the illegal drug. The fishing boat is identified as a Sri Lankan craft. Six people aboard the vessel were arrested and are currently in custody, along with communication devices used in the operation. The estimated street value of the confiscated heroin is around Rs. 6 billion, as reported by the Navy.
