Suspect arrested in Kahawatta gem businessman murder case

Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a gem businessman in Kahawatta. The suspect was found hiding in a forest area in Kahawatta when the Delwala police made the arrest. Authorities reported that the arrest followed a search by several special police teams related to the case. The suspect is a resident of Kahawatta Kanda. On March 29, police received a report that a 61-year-old gem businessman from Kahawatta had gone missing. The investigation showed that he had ridden his motorcycle along the Kahawatta–Nilagama road on March 28 before he disappeared. His motorcycle was later located near a curve on that same road, and his mobile phone was found in a nearby tea estate. Further police inquiries led to the discovery of the businessman’s body in a mining pit on March 30. The suspect was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder.
