Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko to visit Sri Lanka

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko is set to arrive in Sri Lanka today, October 31. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that his visit will focus on the 11th Sri Lanka–Russia Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting. During his time in Sri Lanka, Rudenko is expected to engage in discussions with high-ranking Sri Lankan officials. Previously, a Russian energy deputy minister visited Sri Lanka and showed interest in supplying crude oil to the country. However, the Samajavadi Janatha Peramuna party has alleged that there is a plot to hinder oil imports from Russia. On October 30, Dr. G. Weerasinghe, the Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, participated in a protest outside the Presidential Secretariat, where he urged the President to quickly enable the import of oil from Russia.
