A committee in Iran's parliament has given the green light to a plan that will introduce tolls for ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by the Fars news agency, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). A member of the national security commission confirmed this approval. The plan will prevent US and Israeli vessels from passing through the strait. Additionally, ships from countries that have imposed sanctions against Iran will also be denied access. The new toll system was unveiled on Iranian state television, which stated that Iran would work together with Oman to implement it. The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for global trade, with about 20% of the world’s crude oil passing through this area, which lies between Iran and Oman. However, since the start of the conflict, the number of ships crossing has dropped by nearly 95%, according to Kpler, a maritime intelligence company.
