Sajin Vass Gunawardena, a former Member of Parliament, appeared in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today, March 31. He was arrested by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). His arrest took place on March 9 when he went to the Bribery Commission to give a statement. He has been remanded until March 31. Gunawardena is facing allegations of having illegal assets totaling Rs. 243.8 million. He was called to the Bribery Commission as part of an investigation into how he may have acquired these assets unlawfully.
