The Cabinet Spokesman and Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, assured that there will be no electricity supply limits during the upcoming Vesak and Poson festivals, despite the ongoing energy crisis in Sri Lanka caused by the conflict in the Middle East. During a Cabinet media briefing on the 31st, he responded to a journalist’s inquiry and emphasized that the government has taken steps to manage energy use. This includes declaring Wednesdays as a public holiday. Dr. Jayatissa addressed worries about electricity consumption during the festivals set for May and June, noting that the Commissioner-General of Essential Services has provided detailed guidelines for energy conservation in government bodies. He stated that the government aims to protect the public’s overall well-being as much as possible. He confirmed that there will be no electricity restrictions during Vesak and Poson celebrations and that the government will offer support for these events. He remarked, “People's daily lives are not only about economic activities; we must also safeguard their cultural, aesthetic, and social lives.” He assured that the necessary government support would be available. However, he pointed out that due to the current global situation, it is important to consider energy management and conscious consumption. He reiterated that the government does not plan to limit such festivals.
