US President Donald Trump warned that if Iran does not agree to a deal with the United States and does not open the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. might respond by "blowing up and completely obliterating" the country's electric plants and oil wells. In a post on Truth Social today, he stated, “The United States of America is in serious discussions with a new and more reasonable regime to end our military operations in Iran. Great progress has been made, but if a deal is not reached soon, which it likely will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not opened for business immediately, we will end our lovely stay in Iran by destroying all of their electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island, as well as potentially all desalinization plants, which we have purposely not yet touched.” This statement follows Trump’s remarks about the possibility of the U.S. taking Iran's oil during an interview with the Financial Times last night. He mentioned that his preference would be to take the oil while considering whether to seize the key fuel export hub at Kharg Island. Following his comments, oil prices increased on Monday, with Brent crude surpassing $116 a barrel.
