Donald Trump says next supreme leader won t “last long” without his support
On Sunday, President Donald Trump stated that the new supreme leader of Iran “will not last long” unless he secures Trump's approval. This comment comes as Iran is set to announce a successor to its long-time leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In an interview with ABC News, Trump remarked, “He’s going to have to get approval from us. If he doesn’t get approval from us, he’s not going to last long.” Trump has voiced his desire to be part of the process for selecting Iran's next leader, mentioning that he does not want to revisit this issue every decade. “We want to choose a president who won't lead their country into war,” he told reporters on Air Force One on Saturday. Previously, he mentioned to CNN that he is open to working with a religious leader in Iran, stating, “It depends on who the person is. I don’t mind religious leaders. I deal with a lot of religious leaders, and they are fantastic.”
