Warm weather expected to continue until mid-April- Met Dept.
The Meteorology Department of Sri Lanka has announced that the hot weather currently affecting many areas of the island will last until mid-April. They pointed out that low wind speeds are making it feel even warmer. People who work outdoors should take care of their health and drink plenty of water during this time. Teachers are also advised to watch over schoolchildren, especially when they participate in sports activities. On May 5, the highest rainfall was recorded in Handapanagala, Monaragala District, with 13.8 mm. Additionally, the highest temperature noted in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. today, May 6, was 36.4 °C in Ratnapura. The lowest temperature in the country was 8.1 °C, recorded at the Nuwara Eliya Meteorological Station.
