Three police officers suspended after female suspect escapes from custody

Three police officers have been suspended after a female suspect escaped while in custody. The officers include two sergeants and a female constable from the Mount Lavinia Police Station. They were responsible for guarding a woman accused of drug trafficking. The suspect had been arrested by the Special Operations Unit from the Moratuwa Police Special Task Force Camp. She was caught on the main road at Attidiya, near Maliban Junction in Ratmalana, with 36,650 milligrams of heroin. On February 16, while under a detention order at the Mount Lavinia Police Station, the suspect asked to use the restroom. As she was taken by the female constable, she managed to escape and got away on a motorcycle parked nearby. However, a special police team found her again about eight hours later in the Kimbula-Ela area of Thalawathugoda.
