Debate on Parliamentary Pensions (Repeal) Bill to be held today
The discussion on the second reading of the Parliamentary Pensions (Repeal) Bill will take place today, February 17. It is set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., according to the Secretary General's Office of Parliament. The second parliamentary week of February will begin today and continue until February 20, 2026. Parliament will gather at 9:30 a.m. under the guidance of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. There will be time for parliamentary business and questions until 11:30 a.m., as stated by the Secretary General's Office. Along with the debate on the pension repeal bill, members will also consider a proposal to form a Select Committee of Parliament. This committee will review laws related to elections and present its findings and suggestions to Parliament. Tomorrow, February 18, three regulations under the Special Commodity Levy Act and two orders under the Motor Traffic Act will be discussed and approved. On February 19, 2026, debates on the Judicature (Amendment) Bill and the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill are planned. Additionally, on Friday, February 20, 2026, the Opposition will present an Adjournment Motion concerning "Issues Prevailing in the Energy Sector" for debate.
