Sri Lanka Police to set up dedicated Cybercrime Division - Minister
The Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, announced that Sri Lanka will create a new police division focused on fighting cybercrime. He shared this news during the opening of the Polpitiya Police Station on Friday (06). He noted that Sri Lanka sees between 23 and 25 cybercrimes reported each day, which he called a very high figure. The Minister mentioned that the Police Department is working on using new technology and gaining special skills to effectively deal with these crimes. He stressed that the government aims to make the Sri Lanka Police a professional, efficient, and corruption-free organization. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to reach this goal. Additionally, the Minister stated that a supportive atmosphere is being established for talented officers to grow, while also ensuring that officers involved in misconduct are removed from the police force.
