Ginger prices soar amid supply shortage
Ginger prices in Sri Lanka have risen sharply, as reported by vegetable sellers in Hatton. Wholesale traders indicate that fresh ginger used to cost between Rs. 300 and Rs. 500 per kilogram. However, prices have now jumped to between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 2,000 per kilogram. The increase is due to a supply shortage caused by significant damage to ginger farms from Cyclone Ditwah.
