Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, who is currently in remand, has been taken to the Trincomalee District General Hospital for a medical check-up. According to Prison Media Spokesperson A. C. Gajanayake, the Thero needed to be hospitalized for blood tests due to an illness. Balangoda Kassapa Thero, along with four other Buddhist monks and six additional suspects, has been remanded until January 28. They are accused of breaking coastal conservation laws by placing a Buddha statue at the Trincomalee Bodhiraja Vihara on November 16, 2025.
