Suspect arrested with T-56 firearm and ammunition in Batapola
A suspect has been detained for having a T-56 assault rifle, two magazines, and 45 rounds of ammunition. This arrest was carried out by officers from the Ampara Division Criminal Investigation Unit in the Saadamulla area of Batapola Police Division, located in Elpitiya. The action followed a tip-off from Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Waruna Jayasundara, who oversees the Eastern Province. The arrested individual is a 45-year-old man from Namal Uyana in Saadamulla, according to police reports. Authorities noted that he is closely linked to a known underworld figure. Further investigations suggest that the confiscated firearm was reportedly meant for use in several planned murders. The Batapola Police are continuing their investigation into this case.
