LNP - Govt. to revise electricity tariff soon, refutes 3-year claim

The government will take measures to revise the electricity tariff by a certain margin, and it will not take three years as claimed by Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said. Meanwhile, Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe earlier said that the National People’s Power (NPP) government would reduce electricity tariffs by over 30% within the next three years. Addressing the media, the Cabinet Spokesman explained that the government is working on revising fuel and electricity prices within a reasonable margin without placing an undue burden on the public. "Certain price revisions cannot be implemented solely at our discretion, as previous governments tied them to various entities. However, the government is committed to reducing fuel and electricity bills without causing hardships to the people," he said.
