13 Oct 2025 By Tyronne Jayamanne Local

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) has raised an alarm over a surge in online scams targeting unsuspecting victims. Senior Information Security Engineer at SLCERT, Charuka Damunupola said that the majority of the complaints involve fraudulent schemes promising massive returns on stock investments in foreign markets. He said that the complaints report financial losses ranging from 1 million to 30 million Sri Lankan Rupees. He cautioned the public against sharing sensitive personal information, including ID photos, bank details or other personal data, to prevent falling victim to these scams.
