According to a press release from the Japanese embassy, Japan is contributing USD 1,343,202 (around Rs. 400 million) for this venture. The funds will support humanitarian demining efforts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka, led by MAG, The HALO Trust, and DASH. This new project aims to clear nearly 400,000 square meters of land, enabling over 3,100 people to return home and allowing approximately 22,000 others in nearby areas to boost their economic activities. Japan has been a key supporter of demining in Sri Lanka since 2002, with total aid exceeding USD 49 million. Isomata stated that the signing of these three grant contracts reflects Japan's ongoing commitment to assist the people of Sri Lanka, particularly in regions affected by conflict. He emphasized the need to enhance support for local communities to improve livelihoods and essential infrastructure. This, he said, will help the people progress towards socio-economic development in the North and East. He expressed hope that Japan’s continued support for demining will further strengthen the trust and friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
