The Department of Meteorology issued this weather forecast on May 14, 2026, at 5:30 a.m. A low-pressure area northeast of Sri Lanka is still present but is predicted to weaken and move away from the island over the next 36 hours. After 1:00 p.m., showers or thundershowers may also occur in other parts of the island. Some areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, could experience heavy rainfall of around 100 mm. The public is advised to take precautions against possible damage from strong localized winds and lightning during thundershowers. Showers are also likely in Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Galle, and Matara districts.
