The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has refiled a case against former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal in the Colombo High Court. The case accuses him of causing a loss of over Rs. 1.84 billion to the Sri Lankan government by purchasing Greek T-bond investments in 2012, during a severe economic crisis in Greece. This legal action falls under Section 67(5) of the Anti-Corruption Act. The case was reopened after Cabraal did not meet a court order to deposit Rs. 100 million within three months. Previously, the CIABOC sought to withdraw the case if the payment was made, but legal actions resumed when he failed to pay the required amount on time.
