US President Donald Trump shared on social media Wednesday that the ongoing conflict with Iran might soon conclude, allowing oil and natural gas shipments to resume, provided that Iran agrees to a reported deal he did not explain. Trump stated, “If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.” According to Axios, the White House is close to finalizing a one-page agreement with Iran to end the war. This deal reportedly includes a halt on Iranian uranium enrichment, the lifting of U.S. sanctions, the distribution of frozen Iranian funds, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for shipping. Trump mentioned that it might be “perhaps a big assumption” to think Iran would accept the terms offered by the United States. The White House has not commented on questions about the potential agreement. Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said it was “too soon” to think about direct peace talks with Iran, even though there were reports that Washington and Tehran were close to a framework to resolve their 67-day conflict. In an interview with the New York Post, Trump ruled out sending representatives to Pakistan for further negotiations, despite claims from sources in Islamabad that a tentative deal was near. “I don’t think so,” Trump said, adding, “I think we’ll do it— it’s too far. No, it’s too much.”
