Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar lead rout of Delhi Capitals
The chaos began when Bhuvneshwar bowled IPL debutant Sahil Parakh for a two-ball duck in the first over. This was followed by Delhi Capitals achieving the lowest powerplay score. The Delhi pitch played true, offering swing and bounce throughout the initial overs. Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood took full advantage, returning figures of 3-0-5-3 and 3-0-8-3 respectively in the first six overs. At the break, Bhuvneshwar expressed surprise at how long the ball swung, a sentiment shared by the DC batters. Parakh, who was selected over Prithvi Shaw, entered the game with a solid reputation for an 18-year-old. DC's cricket director Venugopal Rao sees potential for him to represent India one day, but on this occasion, his IPL debut ended after just two balls. Bhuvneshwar first edged his ball to Parakh, then bowled him with an inswinger on the next delivery. In the following over, Hazlewood hit the perfect length with his first ball to KL Rahul, resulting in a top edge caught by wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma. Hazlewood then bowled Sameer Rizvi for a golden duck with late movement. Tristan Stubbs avoided a hat-trick for Hazlewood, but he too fell to Bhuvneshwar shortly after. With two slips in place, Rajat Patidar intensified the pressure on DC, allowing his bowlers to keep attacking. When Bhuvneshwar dismissed Axar Patel, DC found themselves at 7 for 5 in the third over. This quickly turned to 8 for 6 when Hazlewood bowled a sharp delivery that caught Nitish Rana by surprise. Even RCB players were stunned by the situation, with Tim David covering his face in disbelief. A brief dust storm caused a stoppage, but a 35-run partnership between Abhishek Porel and David Miller provided some relief for DC. Porel came in as an Impact Player after the fifth wicket fell. He made an impact with a powerful shot over midwicket for four runs soon after the powerplay. Miller seemed comfortable against RCB's bowlers until Rasikh caught him with a short ball that resulted in a top edge. Batting at No. 8 for the first time in his extensive T20 career, Miller scored 19 runs off 18 balls. Kyle Jamieson hit the game’s first six, sending the ball over square leg in the 11th over, but Krunal Pandya soon dismissed him for 12 runs. Porel managed to score 30 runs off 33 balls before being the last player out. He was the only batter from DC to score over 20 runs, helping them surpass the previous lowest IPL total of 49. Hazlewood ended the innings with a powerful yorker that shattered the stumps. Brief scores: Royal Challengers Bengaluru 77 for 1 in 6.3 overs (Jacob Bethell 20, Virat Kohli 23*, Devdutt Padikkal 34*; Kyle Jamieson 1-42) beat Delhi Capitals 75 in 16.3 overs (Abishek Porel 30, David Miller 19, Kyle Jamieson 12; Josh Hazlewood 4-12, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3-05, Rasikh Salman 1-21, Suyash Sharma 1-07, Krunal Pandya 1-09) by nine wickets.
