First photo from far side of the moon released
On Tuesday, the White House unveiled the first image captured by the Artemis II crew of the Moon's far side. The photo, which shows "Humanity, from the other side," was taken from the Orion spacecraft as Earth disappeared behind the lunar horizon. Dated April 6, the image was shared in a post on X. The Artemis II astronauts are returning to Earth after venturing farther into space than any humans have ever traveled. On Monday evening, the Orion spacecraft set a new record by traveling 252,756 miles (406,771 km) away from Earth. At that distance, the Moon appeared to them as big as a basketball held at arm's length, according to NASA. During their lunar flyby, they also became the first humans to view the Moon's far side with their own eyes.
