Iran s president says country willing to stop fighting if not attacked again
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Tuesday that his country is open to stopping the fighting if it can be assured it will not face further attacks. According to Iranian state media, Pezeshkian emphasized, “We have never wanted tension or war at any point. We are ready to end this conflict if the right conditions are established, especially the guarantees to avoid future aggression.” His remarks were reported by Press TV during his discussion with European Council President António Costa. Following these comments, stocks rose around midday, rebounding from earlier statements by officials from the Trump administration regarding the end of the war. However, Costa's summary of the conversation did not include Pezeshkian's comments. A European Union official revealed to CNN that Pezeshkian maintained the same position during his talk with the European Council president earlier that day. Press TV also mentioned that Pezeshkian criticized the European Union for not being outspoken enough against the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. He stated, “The EU should adjust its policies and positions according to international law and engage constructively and professionally with others.” In a separate interview with Al Jazeera on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Iran is not currently in talks with the United States, although the country has received communications from the Trump administration.
