The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is set to begin a 24-hour island-wide token strike starting at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, the 31st. The GMOA claims that recent transfers were made unlawfully and for political reasons, without any prior investigation. During a media briefing today, Assistant Secretary of the GMOA, Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya, announced that a list has been created for these transfers, which were not done by past administrations. He confirmed that this strike is a response to the transfers. Dr. Weerasuriya mentioned that authorities have until tomorrow morning to step in and stop the strike if they choose to do so. He also emphasized that emergency medical services will still be provided at hospitals as usual, despite the strike.
